Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on system protection engineering, including relay settings and power system studies, with a supporting role in P&C design for HV transmission projects.

The candidate will manage relay records, perform fault studies, and review drawings, while ensuring compliance with NERC/PRC standards. The position offers hybrid work and potential relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
• Experience performing fault studies and relay coordination using CAPE/ASPEN.
• Proficiency with popular relay software/tools (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).

Responsibilities

• Lead system protection engineering tasks including relay settings, protection philosophies, and power system studies.
• Review substation protection & control design documents (one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics).
• Develop and verify protection settings and coordination using CAPE/ASPEN.
• Support commissioning, field energization, and issue resolution during construction.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards and client requirements.
