Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission/substation projects, with a secondary role reviewing P&C designs.

Responsibilities include configuring relays (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista), performing short-circuit analyses, and supporting commissioning. The role requires strong client communication and project leadership; a generous relocation package is

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophies and relay logic (line/transformer/bus/capacitor/reactor).
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Proficiency with relay configuration tools: SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, and other OEM software.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time-current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor relays and manage protective data in Powerbase.
• Support protection and control design reviews with P&C drawings and schematics.
• Assist with field commissioning, RFIs, and resolution of protection issues.
