Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in a hybrid work arrangement. You will lead protection engineering activities including relay settings, protection philosophies, and power system studies, while supporting substation P&C design for HV transmission projects.

Expect three days in office with two remote days and relocation support where needed. The role requires a ABET‑accredited EE degree and 10+ years in system protection, with proficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in relay logic and protection philosophies.
• Proficiency with CAPE/ASPEN or similar protection analysis tools.
• Experience with relay configuration tools (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, etc.).
• Experience managing settings and protection data in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Ability to interpret P&C drawings (one-lines, wiring diagrams, schematics).
• Familiarity with IEEE/ANSI and NERC/PRC standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work with utility clients and field teams.
• Proven experience leading portions of projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform system protection studies including short‑circuit analysis.
• Develop relay settings and protection coordination plans.
• Configure microprocessor‑based relays and verify settings with vendor software.
• Manage relay records and configuration data in Powerbase or equivalent."
• Review P&C design documents (one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics).
• Support commissioning and field energization through testing plans and RFIs.
• Lead portions of projects and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
