Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies, with secondary review of P&C design for HV transmission and substations.

The position includes a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days. Applicants should have ABET‑accredited electrical engineering degrees and 10+ years in system protection, including CAPE/ASPEN and relay

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with Powerbase or similar relay databases.
• Familiarity with IEEE/ANSI/NERC/PRC standards and protection and control drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies including short-circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor-based protective relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and configurations in Powerbase and align with client standards.
• Support field commissioning, RFIs, and protection issue resolution during construction and startup.
• Develop and review P&C design documents in coordination with substation design teams.
