Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in a hybrid role. The position centers on protection philosophy development, relay settings, and system studies for transmission and substation projects.

You will also support P&C design coordination, review drawings, and assist with field commissioning while ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements. A strong background in CAPE/ASPEN and vendor software is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
Hands-on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
Strong background in protection logic and relay coordination.
Experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
Proficiency with protection configuration tools like SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.
Experience managing protection data in Powerbase or similar databases.
Ability to interpret P&C drawings: one-lines, three-lines, schematics.

Responsibilities

Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for lines, transformers, buses.
Review substation P&C designs: one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts.
Perform short-circuit analysis and time-current curve development.
Support event analysis and misoperation investigations.
Coordinate with utility clients, equipment manufacturers, and field teams.
Ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC/PRC standards and client standards.
