Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The successful candidate will own protection philosophy development, relay settings, and power system studies, with a secondary role reviewing substation protection & control designs for HV transmission projects.

Responsibilities include coordinating protection for lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks; performing fault studies and relay coordination; and supporting field commissioning and site

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 10+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings, protection studies, and fault analysis.
• Familiarity with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.
• Proficiency with protection software like SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and switchgear.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time–current curve development.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and settings in databases like Powerbase; ensure change control alignment.
• Review P&C drawings (one‑line, ladder, schematics) for accuracy and compliance.
• Support commissioning, field questions, and issue resolution during construction.
