Job summary

Carle Health seeks a Surgical Technologist to support direct and indirect operating room care, assisting surgeons and preparing instruments for a variety of operative cases. You will help set up sterile fields, scrub in, and coordinate case flow to promote patient safety and efficiency.

Mentoring staff, training students, and precepting nurses are also part of the role, with BLS certification and an associate degree or certificate in surgical technology required.

Qualifications

• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: Associate‘s degree or Certificate in Surgical Technology
• Work Experience: Accepts New Grads

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgeon-specific operative procedures ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient setup.
• Instruments, equipment and sutures are appropriate, complete and functional.
• Set up sterile field and scrub in prior to patient entering the room.
• Organize back table and mayo stand for easy access during cases.
• Anticipate case needs and coordinate with surgeons for efficient turnover.
• Precept surgical techs and RNs to prepare for surgeon-specific procedures.
• Scrub on a range of procedures across specialties including running mayo independently.
• Plan for intra-op events and maintain calm, controlled communication with the team.
