Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a project team of engineers and designers focused on high and extra high voltage substations. The role requires in-office work three days per week with a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing Substation General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, Grounding and Lightning Shielding Plans, and related drawings, with guidance to junior staff and coordination with clients and vendors.

Qualifications

• Essential: Associates degree in drafting or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize equipment details and clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation drawings (GA, equipment plans, elevations, BOM, grounding).
• Lead field walkdowns, collect data, and discuss issues with clients/contractors.
• Apply codes and standards, mentor designers, and ensure design quality.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches and coordinate inputs from related disciplines.
