Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a team of engineers and designers on high and extra high voltage projects. The role involves drafting and reviewing substation drawings, conducting field walkdowns, and ensuring compliance with codes and client standards.

The position supports hybrid work with in-office days. Essential experience includes 15+ years in substation physical design, proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation, and 3D visualization capabilities.

Qualifications

• An AssociatesDegree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15 or more years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (i.e. AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
• An AssociatesDegree in Computer Aided Design.
• Familiarity with Bentley Substation, Inventor SDS, and BlueBeam.
• Familiar with ground-based Lidar, converting point cloud information to vector.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and reviews substation drawings: General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, Elevations, BOM, Shielding, Grounding, Conduit and Details.
• Leads field walkdowns, gathers data at client facilities, and discusses walkdown issues with clients and contractors.
• Provides guidance on codes and standards, participates in quality improvements and ensures designs conform to standards.
• Mentors designers and drafters in use of design tools and client-specific tools.
• Reviews production of design deliverables and guides calculations related to design processes.
• Develops cost‑effective design approaches and interfaces with other disciplines for input.
