Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a skilled team. The role is based on a hybrid schedule with in-office work three days per week at the Portland office, collaborating with engineers and designers on high and extra high voltage substation projects.

You will prepare and review substation drawings, lead field walkthroughs, and ensure designs meet codes and project standards while mentoring colleagues. Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent technical experience in drafting or related field.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details and clearance requirements.
• Ability to multi-task across projects.
• Ability to conceptualize 3D parts without CAD aid.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed review of substation drawings and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Lead field walkdowns and data collection at client facilities.
• Provide design guidance and enforce design standards and codes.
• Mentor designers, drafters and project stakeholders.
• Review and supervise production of design deliverables.
• Interface with other disciplines to obtain input for integrated design.
