Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer to join a collaborative team of engineers and designers. The role focuses on drafting and reviewing substation layouts, equipment plans, grounding, and related plans in a high/very high voltage environment.

The position requires hands-on drafting leadership, field walkdowns, and adherence to codes and client standards, with mentoring to designers and drafters.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task across projects.
• 3D visualization capability without CAD aid.

Responsibilities

• Review vendor design deliverables and consolidate comments.
• Lead field walkdowns with client facilities and discuss issues.
• Apply design codes and standards, guide project team.
• Mentor designers and drafters in design tools and methods.
• Review and supervise production of design deliverables.
• Provide guidance on calculations for design processes.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches for projects.
• Coordinate inputs from other disciplines for integrated design.
• Prepare and review calculations for design tasks.
• Manage work plans within budget and schedule.
