Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and control systems for HV and EHV substations. You will guide design teams, prepare relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients, vendors, and project managers to deliver complete protection solutions.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days, plus a potential relocation package depending on location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required or preferred.
• 12+ years designing substations 138 kV+.
• PE license or the ability to obtain one.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in lead engineering roles.
• Experience writing and supporting relay calculations.
• Proficiency with protection design tools and standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Experience with SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler relay equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation protection and control design efforts.
• Coordinate with project teams, clients, and vendors to ensure timely delivery.
• Prepare relay philosophies, include SCADA and comms concepts.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide design guidance.
• Review calculations and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field verification (as needed).
