Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations. You will lead design efforts, mentor staff, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and project teams.

The role emphasizes delivering reliable relay calculations, developing relay philosophies, and coordinating SCADA concepts while supporting travel to client sites and office-based work three days a week.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV+.
• PE license is required.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in lead engineering role.
• Experience writing and supporting relay calculations.
• Proficient with design tools and standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Experience with SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler protective relay equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation protection and controls engineering design efforts.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and SCADA/telecommunication configurations.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients and vendors.
• Review calculations and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide design phases.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field verification.
