Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead Substation Engineer to apply your deep knowledge of protective relaying and controls for HV/EHV substations. You will guide design teams, develop relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver reliable, compliant designs.

This role combines technical leadership with hands-on analysis of protection schemes, SCADA concepts, and 138kV+ substations, offering a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to mentor peers while supporting project

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• 12+ years designing substations 138kV+.
• PE license holder with client liaison experience.
• Experience writing and supporting relay calculations.
• Familiar with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI.
• Proficient in MS Office and technical document prep.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation modification and upgrade work with calculations, designs and specs.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and SCADA/telecom concepts.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate detailed design phases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of engineering issues.
• Perform single-line and relay diagram design reviews and studies.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and project managers for timely design.
