Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead physical design of high‑voltage substations, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical excellence from concept through construction. You will collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver safe, reliable, code‑compliant engineering solutions for critical infrastructure.

This role supports remote work within the United States with preferred proximity to offices for hybrid scheduling.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
• 7–10 years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations using applicable codes and client standards, including general arrangement, layout, elevations, trenching, grounding, conduit drawings, BOM, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids and lightning protection plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
• Create equipment specifications and develop design scope and cost estimates.
• Prepare facility planning studies and design documentation for procurement and construction.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
