Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to drive design of high‑voltage substations, mentor junior staff, and deliver code‑compliant solutions across projects from concept to construction.

The role supports remote work within the United States with preferred hybrid arrangements at nearby offices, including Fort Worth, TX. Strong leadership and exceptional technical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards.
• Design ground grids based on applicable codes utilizing industry software.
• Design lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Complete calculations such as AC and DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and cost estimates.
• Prepare site layouts and facility planning studies.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC processes and engineering design package approvals.
• Provide mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and designers.
