Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead the design of high‑voltage substations, developing code‑compliant solutions and mentoring junior engineers. You will collaborate with clients and cross‑functional teams from concept through construction, ensuring safety, reliability and quality.

This role can be performed remotely from within the United States with hybrid options near designated offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 7–10 years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and with clients/stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards.
• Design ground grids based on codes using industry software.
• Design lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Complete calculations (AC/DC load, bus spans, ampacity).
• Create equipment/material specifications and develop design scope/cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual designs and facility layouts for studies.
• Prepare support documentation for procurement, construction, and operations/maintenance.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Lead QA/QC processes and technical reviews of engineering packages.
• Provide mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and designers.
