Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer for a fully remote position within the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The role requires strong programming skills (C#, Java, Python) and experience in automated/manual testing and SDLC practices.

Remote, US-based, with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance. Salary range provided: $85,389 - $116,975. Citizenship and security requirements apply; 100% remote with W2 employment.

Qualifications

• Candidates MUST have strong programming skills, often in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
• Experience on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC understanding.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with Git and Subversion.
• Understanding of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of SQL/database validation.
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with various testing types (functional, regression, integration, system, usability, UAT).
• Analytical/problem-solving abilities; strong communication and collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and in teams; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure all information systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, test schedules, and testing approaches.
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers, Requirement Leads, Project Managers, and Development Leads.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure operation free of defects.
• Verify work products using defined methods and criteria in a proper environment.
• Document and communicate test results to stakeholders.
• Support analysis of test results and issue resolution.
• Develop models of future configurations and improvements to procedures.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities (requirements, design, installation, operation, sustainment, support).
• Provide technical solutions to difficult problems; ensure solutions are imaginative and practicable.
