Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer for a 100% remote role supporting the Veterans Affairs (VA). The position requires strong programming skills in C#, .NET, Java, or Python, with extensive experience in manual and automated testing, SDLC/Agile, and test automation tools such as Selenium, TestNG, and JUnit.

A Public Trust (MBI) security clearance is required and the salary range is $85,389 to $116,975 per year.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of total work experience in software testing and quality assurance
• Experience in both manual and automated testing
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, test scripts, and test plans
• Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit)
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions)
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Subversion)
• Knowledge of database and SQL for validating stored data
• Experience testing web apps, APIs, and services
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools
• Experience with different types of testing including functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to mentor junior testers
• Ability to translate business requirements into test scenarios

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and procedures to ensure systems, products, and services meet standards and requirements
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers and leads
• Perform tests to ensure operation and defect-free systems
• Verify work products using defined methods and criteria
• Document and communicate test results
• Support analysis of test results and issue resolution
• Document and resolve complex problems
• Report progress on problem resolution to management
• Devise improvements to procedures and model future configurations
• Create daily test metrics and reporting
• Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities
• Apply technical principles and concepts
• Receive assignments and establish goals
• Provide direction to employees
• Measure objectives
• Provide technical solutions to difficult problems
• Ensure solutions are imaginative and practical
