Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer for a remote role with the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The position requires strong programming skills (C#, .Net, Java, or Python) and a background in both manual and automated testing, in a 100% U.S.-based remote setting with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

Salary range is $85,389 - $116,975, and the role demands leadership in test planning, test execution, and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills, often in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
• Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git and Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking and management tools (e.g. JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of database and SQL for validating stored data.
• Experience in testing web applications, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with various testing types: functional, regression, integration, system, usability, UAT.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, test schedule, and approach.
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs on test cases/scripts with Test Managers and Leads.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure proper operation and defect-free software.
• Document and communicate test results and support analysis of results.
