Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join a small AI-native team that owns the bank's core systems, including cloud infra, data platform, and durable workflows. You will design, build, and operate end-to-end bank tech surfaces with ownership from day one.

You will collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Risk, ship AI-enabled capabilities, and help scale the engineering function as the bank grows, while supporting a remote-first policy across the United States.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership
• Ambiguity tolerance and proactive ownership
• Bias toward simplicity in a lean engineering culture
• Experience leveraging AI to improve coding, design review, and operations
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infrastructure and data platforms
• Regulated-environment experience and examiner-facing documentation

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and own incident response
• Set and improve code review and design standards to raise team effectiveness
• Ship AI-first solutions leveraging agentic workflows and tools
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end including integration and audit
• Document decisions, designs, and runbooks to stand up to examiner review
• Maintain operational posture: monitoring, runbooks, and reliable, auditable systems
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs clearly to executives and cross-functional partners
• Mentor and grow new engineers joining the team
