Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and this Senior Software Engineer will join the engineering team that runs it. You will own bank systems end-to-end, design, build, and operate core surfaces, and ship the AI-enabled tooling that powers the platform.

You will work with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit from day one, mentor peers, and help grow the team as it scales, all while working in a remote-first environment with a small, high-impact team.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity and balance speed with engineering judgment.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
• Banking/payments/regulatory environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and own incident response for core banking surfaces.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; raise examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first: leverage AI tools and workflows to multiply code quality and velocity.
• Own vendor relationships: manage integration, operations, escalation, and audit.
• Build for examiners: document decisions and runbooks for audit review.
• Own the operational posture: monitoring, runbooks, and reliability.
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Help grow talent as the team scales, mentoring peers.
