Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems within a small, AI-native team. You will design, build, and operate core banking surfaces, while managing vendor relationships and maintaining regulatory-compliant runbooks.

You will ship AI-powered solutions, influence engineering standards, and mentor teammates in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment aligned with banking and payments regulations.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to move fast in ambiguity while balancing speed with engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to drive outcomes and improve code quality.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
• Experience in regulated environments like banking or payments.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and maintain incident response for core surfaces.
• Set and improve code review standards and team efficiency on a small team.
• Ship AI-first features and leverage agentic workflows.
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end, including integration, operations, and audits.
• Document decisions for examiner and audit review; ensure regulatory compliance from day one.
• Maintain operational posture with monitoring, runbooks, and audit-ready practices.
• Communicate strategy and constraints clearly to executives and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Grow talent as the team expands; mentor peers and lead by example.
