Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems, from cloud infra to data platforms, within a small AI-native team. You’ll ship AI-first capabilities, manage vendor relationships, and ensure examiner-ready documentation and compliance.

You will influence bank-wide engineering practices, mentor peers, and help scale the team while maintaining speed and ownership in a remote-first environment across the U.S.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to move fast in ambiguity while maintaining engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a small, lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to drive development and operations.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
• Regulated-environment experience in banking/payments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, operate, and respond to incidents.
• Set and improve code review standards and documentation to raise team effectiveness.
• Ship AI-first capabilities to improve velocity, quality, and impact.
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end, including integration, operations, and audits.
• Document decisions and runbooks for examiner/audit review.
• Maintain monitoring, runbooks, and an observable, compliant posture for the bank.
• Communicate technical strategy and constraints to executives, compliance, risk, and engineers.
• Mentor teammates and help grow the team as it expands.
