Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank, and this Senior Software Engineer role sits in the engineering team that runs it. You will own bank systems end-to-end, from cloud infrastructure to data platform, with AI-first tooling and vendor integrations.

You will influence a small, autonomous team, establish design standards, ship durable workflows, and partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk and Audit to ensure regulator-ready solutions while keeping an operational posture that is reliable and observable.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to move fast in ambiguity while balancing engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a small, lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
• Experience in regulated environments and documenting decisions for audits.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and maintain incident response for core banking surfaces.
• Set and improve coding standards, documentation, and team effectiveness on a small, autonomous team.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and leverage agentic workflows to boost quality and velocity.
• Manage vendor relationships end-to-end, including integration, operations, and audits.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk and Internal Audit from day one to ensure examiner-ready decisions and designs.
• Maintain operational posture: monitoring, runbooks, and agile practices for reliability and audit readiness.
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs clearly to executives and non-engineering stakeholders.
