Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end bank systems in a small, AI‑native engineering team. You’ll design, build, and operate core surfaces while shaping how AI tools accelerate delivery.

You’ll collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Audit to ensure examiner-ready documentation and robust runbooks. You’ll contribute to a fast-moving, remote-first culture, mentoring peers and influencing engineering standards as the bank scales.

Qualifications

• 6+ years software engineering experience, senior-strong ownership through launch and operations.
• Comfortable in ambiguity, move fast, balance speed with engineering judgment.
• Bias toward simplicity in a small, lean team with high standards.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex) and agentic workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and run incident response for core banking surfaces.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; raise examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first solutions leveraging AI tools and workflows to boost output.
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end: integration, operations, escalation, and audit.
• Draft decisions, designs, and runbooks for examiner and audit reviews.
• Maintain monitoring and runbooks to keep systems reliable and audit-ready.
• Communicate technical strategy clearly to executives and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Mentor peers and help grow the team as it expands.
