Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, AI-native team. You will own bank systems end-to-end, design and operate core surfaces, and drive AI-driven improvements while partnering with Legal, Compliance, and Risk.

You’ll influence the bank’s technical strategy, build durable workflows, and ship features that support the deposit product and card issuing. This is a high-impact, early-stage build inside a mature company.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ownership through launch and operations.
• Ability to move quickly in ambiguity and take ownership.
• Preference for simplicity in a lean engineering culture.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infra and data platforms.
• Experience in regulated environments like banking or fintech.
• Ability to communicate with executives and non-engineers clearly.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and respond to incidents.
• Set and improve coding standards and documentation to raise team quality.
• Ship AI-first features and leverage AI tools to boost velocity and quality.
• Own vendor relationships including integration, operations, and audits.
• Document decisions and runbooks for examiner and audit readiness.
• Maintain operational posture: monitoring, runbooks, and alerting for reliability.
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Mentor new engineers and help grow the team.
