Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small AI-native team responsible for the systems behind the bank: vendor integrations, data platform, and operational tooling. You will set technical direction and own the hardest problems with direct exposure to senior leadership.

You will define architecture, drive cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance, and mentor engineers to raise the bar across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level, hands-on ownership of ambiguous, high-stakes systems through launch and operations.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and leveraging AI as a multiplier for code quality and velocity.
• Experience with cloud data platforms and infrastructure-as-code to manage scalable banking systems.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the bank's systems, including cloud, data platform, and integration points.
• Own the hardest problems end-to-end, design and operate high-stakes components with well-defined failure domains.
• Lead by example in code reviews, design reviews, and documentation to elevate the team.
