Job summary

EPS is seeking a Sr. Relay Technician to serve as the technical lead for protection and control systems.

You will oversee advanced testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and full project execution, guiding field teams while ensuring safe, reliable operation of substation and industrial systems. You will coordinate with customers and utilities, develop test procedures, and deliver final reports and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Pass pre-employment drug screen requirement.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Willing to overtime and travel as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in substations.
  • Capable of troubleshooting distribution and transmission controls circuits.
  • Knowledge of relay test software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety briefings and enforce safety policies on job sites.
  • Analyze protection schemes for power circuits and related systems.
  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and functional testing of substation control circuits.
  • Execute advanced end-to-end testing using relay test equipment and software.
  • Read and validate protection and control schematics and configurations.
  • Calibrate and ensure performance of electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
  • Lead root cause analyses for relay trips and disturbances.
  • Develop project execution plans, outages, and energization procedures.
  • Manage large-scale commissioning, retrofit, and maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate resources and field activities to ensure on-time completion.
  • Prepare comprehensive test and commissioning reports and documentation.
  • Mentor Relay Technician I/II and junior engineers; interface with customers and stakeholders.
