Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the Process Safety competency across US Refineries and support policy development beyond the US. The role serves as the US region SME and coordinates with Canadian counterparts.

You will build a skilled team, develop risk training, and ensure PSM standards such as PHA and RMP compliance are upheld. Strong expertise in process safety and regulatory interpretation is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or related discipline.
• 10+ years in Oil and Gas/Petrochemicals is a plus.
• Experience in HAZOPs/LOPA with SIL implications.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across US Refineries, including methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Develop and train Process Safety Engineers in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance).
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Support audits within the PSM space.
