Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US refineries' Process Safety competency and support policy development beyond the US. The role will act as the US Region's SME and coordinate with Canadian counterparts.

You will build a team of competent Process Safety Engineers, deliver training on Cenovus Risk Methodology, and ensure QA/QC of site deliverables while advancing key risk standards and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 16+ years in Process Safety roles; 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals preferred.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS, US regulations; Functional Safety certs are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across US Refineries, owning methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Develop and train Process Safety Engineers in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance) across the organization.
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis) and support PSM audits.
