Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US Refineries' Process Safety competency and extend risk expertise to the Canadian operations as needed. The role requires deep technical leadership and strategic policy influence within the US region.

The candidate will build and lead teams of Process Safety Engineers, develop risk training, and ensure compliance with PSM standards while collaborating with global counterparts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or related discipline.
• 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals is a plus; Safety engineer cert is an asset.
• Experience leading complex HAZOPs/LOPA/HLDA analyses and translating into SIL.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across the US Refineries, developing methodology and policy representation.
• Develop and mentor Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC site deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance) across the organization.
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive assurance audits within the PSM space.
