Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the Process Safety competency for US Refineries and support policy across borders. The role serves as the US Region SME and aligns Cenovus PSM practices with Canadian counterparts.

You will develop risk training, oversee HAZOP/LOPA/HAZID efforts, and ensure regulatory interpretation and PHA/RMP compliance across facilities. This is a senior, high-impact role requiring extensive experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field is required.
• 16+ years in Process Safety or related discipline; asset: 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; translate to SIL requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across US Refineries, owning methodology development and policy representation.
• Develop competent Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver, and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC site deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards across the organization (PHA, RMP).
• Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive assurance audits within the PSM space.
