Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US refineries' Process Safety competency and support policy across the US and Canada. You will be the US Region SME and help shape Cenovus's overall PSM expertise.

You will build a team trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID) and deliver a comprehensive risk-training suite with QA/QC of site deliverables. Strong regulatory interpretation and risk standards experience are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
16+ years in Process Safety, 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals preferred.
Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; LOPA with SIL requirements.
Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
Experience in consequence modelling; PHAST software asset.
Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes; US regulatory familiarity; RMP compliance.
Experience with Fire Hazard Analysis, QRA, facility siting concepts, Bowtie/HAZID; PSM in projects asset.

Responsibilities

Lead Process Safety across US Refineries—owning methodology, regulatory interpretation, and policy representation.
Develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
Design, deliver, and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel with QA/QC of deliverables.
Champion risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization.
Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
Drive and support PSM-space assurance audits.
