Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the Process Safety competency for US Refineries and influence policy beyond the US. The role reports as the US Region SME and partners with Canadian counterparts.

Responsibilities include owning methodology development, building engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology, delivering a comprehensive risk-training suite, and safeguarding key risk standards. Lead third-party studies and drive PSM audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required.
• 16+ years in Process Safety; Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals experience preferred.
• US work authorization required; professional certifications are a plus.
• Experience leading multiple HAZOPs and MOCs; LOPA analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries—methodology development, regulatory interpretation, and policy representation.
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver, and maintain risk-training for site personnel; QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion safety standards across the organization (PHA, RMP compliance).
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
