Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the Process Safety competency for US Refineries and support policy development beyond the US. This role serves as the US region's SME and aligns Cenovus risk practices with Canadian counterparts.

You will build a team of trained safety engineers, drive risk-based training, and ensure compliance with PHA/RMP and related standards. The role requires extensive experience in HAZOP/LOPA and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline.
• 16+ years in Process Safety, 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals advantageous; certification an asset.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs and translating LOPA to SIL requirements.
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
• Experience in consequence modelling; PHAST familiarity is a plus.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes & US regulations; RMP compliance.
• Experience with Fire Hazard Analysis, QRA and facility siting; PSM concepts in projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries, overseeing methodology, regulatory interpretation, and policy representation.
• Develop and mentor Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a risk-training program for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP) and oversee third-party studies.
• Coordinate audits and drive assurance activities within the PSM space.
