Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer for its US Refineries. You will lead process safety competency, set methodologies, and ensure regulatory compliance while guiding a team of engineers across Cenovus Risk Methodology.

You will develop training, oversee audits, and coordinate assessments such as Facility Siting and Fire Hazard Analysis, driving high standards across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
• 16+ years in Process Safety; 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals is a plus.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; capable of translating analyses to SIL requirements.
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regulations; RMP compliance.
• PHAST software experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries; own methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel; QA/QC site deliverables.
• Safeguard key risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance).
• Coordinate third‑party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive assurance audits within the PSM space.
