Job summary

Cenovus Energy, headquartered in Calgary, is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead process safety competency for US refineries and support policy development beyond the US. The role acts as the US Region SME and collaborates with Canadian counterparts on PSM expertise.

The candidate will develop methodology, train engineers in Cenovus risk practices, and ensure QA/QC of safety deliverables while driving audits and risk assessments across facilities in the US.

Qualifications

• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or related discipline
• 10+ years in Oil and Gas/Petrochemicals is an asset
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs and translating to SIL requirements
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification
• Experience with Fire Hazard Analysis, QRA, barrier health and PSM in projects is a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across the US Refineries—owning methodology development, regulatory and code interpretation, and industry policy representation
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID)
• Design, deliver, and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables
• Champion and safeguard key risk standards across the organization (PHA, RMP)
• Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis)
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space
