Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to advance Process Safety competency in the US Refineries and support policy beyond the US. This role serves as the US Region’s lead SME and thought leader in process safety, with a dual responsibility for Cenovus’s overall PSM expertise alongside Canadian counterparts.

You will build a team of safety engineers, develop training, drive risk assessment methods such as HAZOP/LOPA/HAZID, and ensure compliance with RMP and

Qualifications

• Requires a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience leading Process Safety in oil/gas or petrochemicals
• Experience with HAZOPs, LOPAs, HAZIDs and risk assessments
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regulations

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries, including methodology development and regulatory interpretation
• Develop competent Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology
• Design and maintain risk-training for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis)
• Drive audits within the PSM space
