Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer for the US Refineries. You will lead Process Safety competency, develop engineers in Cenovus risk methodologies, and drive risk-training programs across sites.

The role requires extensive experience in process safety, HAZOPs, LOPA analyses, and regulatory interpretations aligned with US regulations. Expect collaboration with Canadian counterparts and a focus on safety excellence in Ohio operations.

Qualifications

• 16+ years working directly in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years within Oil and Gas/Petrochemicals is an asset; Functional Safety Engineer Certification is an asset.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs for a chemical/oil and gas operator, and conducting LOPA analyses with translation into SIL requirements.
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
• Experience in consequence modelling (PHAST considered an asset).
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes & US regulations; familiarity with RMP compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across the US Refineries—own methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel; QA/QC of site deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization.
• Directly conduct/coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
