Job summary

Cenovus Energy seeks a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to champion Process Safety in US refineries and coordinate PSM practices with Canadian counterparts. You will lead methodology, regulatory interpretation, and risk training for site personnel, shaping the company’s safety standards and compliance programs.

The role requires a deep background in chemical/mechanical engineering with extensive experience in HAZOP/LOPA, RMP, and related safety analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals is an asset; professional certifications are beneficial.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; translate to SIL requirements.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regulations; RMP compliance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries with methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Develop and train Process Safety Engineers in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization.
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Support audits and assurance activities within the PSM space.
