Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer who will drive Process Safety competency across the US Refineries and support policy development beyond the US. This role will serve as the US Region's SME and lead Cenovus Risk Methodology initiatives.

The position requires 16+ years in Process Safety, experience with HAZOP/LOPA/HAZID, RMP and regulatory interpretation, and collaboration with Canadian counterparts. Local Ohio operations included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 16+ years in Process Safety or related discipline.
• Experience leading multiple unit HAZOPs and MOCs.
• Familiar with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regs.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across the US Refineries—owning methodology development, regulatory and code interpretation, and industry policy representation.
• Build and develop competent Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, etc.).
• Design, deliver, and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel, including QA/QC of site deliverables and the ongoing development of new team members.
• Champion and safeguard key risk standards across the organization (PHA standard, RMP compliance, etc.).
• Directly conduct/coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis, etc.).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
