Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US refineries' Process Safety competency and support policy development beyond the US. This role acts as the US Region SME and collaborates with Canadian counterparts to advance Cenovus Risk Methodology.

You will build a team, develop training, oversee risk assessments including HAZOP/LOPA/HAZID, ensure PHA standards and RMP compliance, and drive audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals preferred; Functional Safety cert an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across US Refineries, including methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver, and maintain risk training for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance).
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive and support audits within the PSM space.
