Job summary

Skanska, a leader in building a better society, is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Engineer to lead detailed estimating and planning across multiple disciplines. You will interpret drawings, develop accurate cost estimates, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to validate work and drive value management.

You will engage subcontractors, build marketplace relationships, and present your findings internally and externally while mentoring junior staff and meeting critical deadlines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with commercial construction estimating.
• 2+ years with common preconstruction software (e.g., Sage Timberline/Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam) and BIM/VDC quantity takeoff workflows.
• 2+ years of subcontractor engagement and market knowledge, with ability to solicit bids and perform post-bid analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent/applicable degree, or 8 years equivalent experience plus a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate, timely, and cost-effective estimates and preconstruction services.
• Interpret drawings and specifications to develop clear estimate clarifications.
• Propose and track value management options and leverage benchmarking tools.
• Engage subcontractors to build relationships, solicit bids, and analyze post-bid results.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous learning in preconstruction.
