Intuit, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Tax SME to lead the resolution of complex payroll tax notices and amendments across multiple states. The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership of cases, coaching junior staff, and driving process improvements.

As a remote, hourly position with flexible hours, you will prepare amended returns, respond to agencies, and ensure knowledge transfer to the team. A CPP or EA differentiator is advantageous; a strong Excel skill set is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses with documentation.
• Hands-on experience preparing and approving amended Federal (Form 941-X) and State payroll tax returns across all states, including complex local requirements.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices, owning the full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X and state equivalents) across 10+ states.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions; trace discrepancies to the originating payroll run and drive corrections.
• Maintain high productivity case resolution for Corrections, Amendments, and Notices with high accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers; propose resolutions to leadership.
• Serve as real-time resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors; coach and share resolution processes.
