Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax SME to resolve complex state and federal payroll tax notices, prepare amended returns, and drive end-to-end corrections. This role emphasizes leadership, coaching, and process improvement across multiple jurisdictions.

The candidate will own complex cases, mentor staff, and contribute to SOPs and Knowledge Base articles while collaborating with Corrections and Pay & File teams. A strong tax background and multi-state experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focused on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of state and federal payroll tax notices; able to draft penalty abatements and agency responses with documentation.
• Hands-on experience preparing amended Federal (941-X) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, deposits, penalties, and interest structures.
• Multi-state payroll tax expertise: reciprocal agreements, resident/nonresident taxation, and local compliance.
• Experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME; coaching junior staff through complex resolutions.
• Strong Excel skills for reconciliation and audit trails; excellent written communication.
• Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business preferred; relevant certifications valued.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex payroll tax notices across multiple states, owning the full lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended federal and state payroll tax returns (941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and fix payroll tax errors across pay periods and jurisdictions; trace to payroll runs and drive corrections.
• Maintain high productivity in resolving corrections, amendments, and notice requests with accuracy.
• Coach and mentor teammates; share knowledge to build team capability and reduce dependency.
• Author, review, and improve SOPs and KB articles; identify recurring errors and propose fixes.
• Identify trends and compliance issues; communicate findings with recommended actions to stakeholders.
