Intuit, Inc. is hiring for a Senior Staff Payroll Tax SME to own complex tax defect resolution, including multi-state notices and amended returns.

The role focuses on fixing payroll tax issues across Notices, Corrections, and Amendments, while mentoring junior staff and improving processes. The position will involve leading the resolution of state and federal payroll tax notices, drafting agency responses, and ensuring thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatements and agency responses.
• Experience preparing amended Federal (941-X) and State payroll tax returns including reconciliations.
• Deep knowledge of FICA, FUTA, FITW and payroll tax filings.
• Lead/senior SME experience with coaching junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex State and Federal payroll tax notices across multiple quarters and states; own case lifecycle end-to-end.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (941-X, W-2c) across many states.
• Diagnose payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods and jurisdictions; drive correction workflows.
• Maintain high productivity in resolving corrections, amendments, and notices with accuracy.
• Coach and mentor team members; lead training and knowledge transfer.
• Author, review, and improve SOPs and KB articles; identify recurring errors.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams.
