Intuit, Inc. seeks a Senior Payroll Tax SME to lead end-to-end resolution of State and Federal payroll tax notices, amendments, and corrections.

This role focuses on tax defect resolution rather than routine processing, and requires ownership of the most complex cases in the queue. The Staff Payroll Tax Processor acts as a technical lead, mentoring junior staff and collaborating with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams to deliver compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and payroll corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses with supporting docs.
• Hands-on experience preparing and approving amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across states including complex local rules.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law (FICA, FUTA, FITW) and cross-state tax compliance.
• Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring staff; strong project and process improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the queue from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors across multiple pay periods and jurisdictions; trace root causes and drive corrections.
• Maintain high productivity resolving Correction, Amendment, and Notice requests with high accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers; propose resolutions with root-cause analysis.
• Serve as the real-time resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors, coaching and transferring knowledge to the team.
