The ideal candidate has 4+ years in payroll tax defect resolution, strong Excel skills, and knowledge of Form 941-X and W-2c workflows. This is a remote, hourly role with flexible hours for 20–40 per week.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in payroll tax with focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of payroll tax notices and multi-state compliance.
• Experience preparing amended Federal and State returns (941-X, W-2c) across multiple states.
• Strong Excel skills for reconciliation and audit trails.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior staff as SME.
• Education or certifications in accounting/finance; CPP/EA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex payroll tax notices across multiple states and quarters, owning full case lifecycle.
• Prepare and file amended payroll tax returns (941-X, state equivalents) end-to-end.
• Diagnose payroll tax errors and drive correction workflows to resolution.
• Coach and support junior staff; share knowledge to build team capability.
• Identify trends and communicate findings to stakeholders with recommended actions.
