Intuit is hiring a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to lead complex tax defect resolution across state and federal notices, amendments, and corrections. The role combines technical tax expertise with coaching responsibilities to elevate team capability while maintaining accuracy in all filings.

The position is remote with flexible hours, offering workload up to 40 hours weekly. The successful candidate will file Form 941-X and W-2c across multiple states and influence process improvements.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notices; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses.
• Hands-on experience preparing amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, tax deposit schedules and penalties.
• Multi-state payroll tax expertise including reciprocal agreements and local compliance.
• Leadership/SME experience with coaching junior staff.
• Strong written communication; ability to author SOPs/KB articles.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex payroll tax notices across multiple states; own full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X and state equivalents).
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors across pay periods and jurisdictions; trace to payroll runs.
• Maintain high productivity resolving correction, amendment, and notice requests with accuracy.
• Coach and mentor Senior Payroll Tax Processors; lead knowledge sharing and training initiatives.
• Collaborate across Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams to resolve issues end-to-end.
